Prescription drug addiction is one of the least understood addiction epidemics in the U.S. today. That is because a person can become addicted almost by accident. Most people mistakenly believe that since a doctor prescribes these drugs that they can't hurt you and you can't get addicted to them.

According to a stunning 2007 survey conducted for the National Institute on Drug Abuse, more than 15 percent of U.S. high school seniors abuse prescription drugs.
